LGPL source code availability

WAVScribe links to Qt, PySide6, and libsndfile (bundled with soundfile) under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License. In accordance with LGPL §6, source code for these components is available as follows.

Written offer

For the LGPL-licensed components bundled with your copy of WAVScribe, complete source code corresponding to the exact version distributed with your installer is available upon written request. To request the source, email contact@wavscribe.com with your WAVScribe version number (visible in Help → About) and the component(s) you would like to receive.

This offer is valid for three (3) years from the date you received your copy of WAVScribe, in accordance with GNU LGPL v3 Section 6.

Source code for Qt and PySide6 is also published by the upstream projects at the URLs below, which mirror the same source archives that would be sent in response to a written request:

Modifying the LGPL components

The LGPL permits end users to modify the LGPL-licensed components of WAVScribe (Qt, PySide6, libsndfile) and to use the modified versions in place of the originals. WAVScribe is distributed as a single-file PyInstaller executable, in which all bundled libraries are packed inside the executable and extracted to a temporary directory at runtime. Because of this packaging format, the LGPL libraries cannot be replaced by swapping files in the installation directory.

End users who wish to use modified versions of the LGPL components can do so by rebuilding WAVScribe from its bundled Python source together with the modified library. The source code for the LGPL components - obtainable via the written offer above or from the upstream URLs - can be modified and built into replacement .dll or .so files. Substituting these into a Python environment with WAVScribe's dependencies installed, and then re-running the PyInstaller build with WAVScribe's spec file, produces an executable that uses the modified components. WAVScribe's PyInstaller spec file is included as part of the source provided in response to a written request.
